Excerpts from To Be a Doctor

Shirley Vandermey Galucki, MD

I am practicing with Dartmouth Hitchcock in Manchester, New Hampshire. I am an Ob/Gyn. I certainly enjoy medicine and consider it a privilege to be with families at the exciting time when they have a new baby. I also do a lot of well-women care. I specialize in dealing with women who are going through the menopausal transition.

The ob/gyn group here has seven physicians, which allows for me to have time for my wonderful family. My husband is a pastor. We moved to New Hampshire around eleven years ago with the goal to plant a church. This past Easter we had our first service in our new building! We recently celebrated the church’s ninth anniversary.

My training at BJU adequately prepared me for medical school. The program that Dr. Clarke established my senior year, allowing us to work as nursing assistants in the local hospital, gave me my first taste of what working in a hospital is like. Prior to that, most of what I perceived medicine to be was based on books, TV shows, and my own doctor visits.

I have written a chapter in a book published by Harvest House Women Helping Women. My chapter was on “Medical Questions Women Ask.”
